Troops from the 8th Brigade of the 3rd New Zealand Division led the invasion of the Japanese-held Mono Island during the Treasury Islands campaign, in October and November 1943. By 15 November a known total of 217 Japanese servicemen had been killed on the Treasuries and seven prisoners taken.
