Nugent Welch, German Tank Captured by New Zealand Division, 1918
More About this Record
The tank depicted in this image is the German A7V, of which only 20 were produced. Known by the Germans as a Sturmpanzer-Kraftwagen (Assault Armoured Motor Vehicle), the German military did not believe that tanks would be useful in combat. By the time they were introduced in the field in March 1918, the British and French had already been using tanks for 2 years.
